News Corp. shares jump after 2Q profit

<div id="subtitle">News Corp. shares jump after 2Q profit as 'Avatar,' advertising pull up 2Q results</div><div><p>News Corp. shares jumped Wednesday, after "Avatar" ticket sales and TV advertising lifted the media conglomerate's fiscal second-quarter financial results.</p><p>The stock rose 89 cents, or 7 percent, to $13.65 in afternoon trading.</p><p>In a client note, Deutsche Bank analyst Doug Mitchelson reiterated his "Buy" rating on News Corp. shares.</p><p>"When an entertainment conglomerate begins to experience a turnaround in the majority of its businesses it can outperform Street estimates for some time," he said.</p><p>News Corp.'s film, broadcast TV and cable units all showed improvement in the most recent quarter, which ended Dec. 31. Its newspaper and book publishing segments also saw operating income rise.</p><p>Overall, News Corp. made a profit of $254 million, reversing a loss of lost $6.42 million caused by a write down in the value of its assets the year before.</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=68388022&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
