NY comptroller wants probe of lost pension checks

<div id="subtitle">NY comptroller asks for congressional probe of Postal Service over misplaced pension checks</div><div><p>Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli wants a congressional committee to investigate how the U.S. Postal Service misplaced thousands of New York state pension checks, delaying their delivery to retired workers.</p><p>He described the lapse as a "gross and irresponsible error" and asked the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to consider how the postal service can prevent it from happening again. DiNapoli made the request in a letter Tuesday.</p><p>Many of the 60,000 checks mailed Dec. 30 failed to reach retirees' homes on schedule, causing some to fear the cash-strapped state was hanging on to the money.</p><p>Postal officials said the checks were mixed by mistake with bulk mail and routed out of state. Most had been found and delivered by the end of last week.</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=66836352&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
